Through a fun and interactive environment, children will learn the skills to stay healthy through choosing the correct food choices, proper cardiovascular exercise, and weight training. Healthy minds will be realized through positive life experiences.

This program will address the obesity issues as outlined by First Lady Michelle Obama by providing after school programs in conjunction with our existing youth programs. These programs educate children and parents about learning how to read nutritional food labels, count calories, and how to be responsible for their own health.

Each after school program will have certified health coaches and fitness instructors who will be responsible for providing motivation and support for our children. Medical doctors will also take part in overseeing any health issues the children may experience.

The emphasis will be to teach our kids how to evaluate a variety of foods and how to choose the healthiest selections. In addition, portion control and balancing of the foods will also be essential in order to build sustainable eating habits. Each day, fun new experiences for our children will demonstrate such activities as cooking techniques and how to prepare healthy meals, or how to get fit and stay fit for life.

The program’s overall success will be determined by the quarterly assessments of our participating children. The assessments will be based upon body composition analysis, reduction in total weight, application of skills, as well as physical exams by our medical community.

This program will be recognized by developing awareness through key events. One of those events will be through the March for Health annual walk. This will solidify community involvement, creating a stronger presence in the fight for our children’s wellness on into adulthood.
